LaRonde Mine

Our LaRonde mine is considered AEM’s flagship operation and has been producing gold since 1988. The mine is located approximately 60 kilometres west of Val d’Or in the Abitibi-Temiscamingue region of Northwestern Quebec and employs approximately 794 people. The 7,200-tonne-per-day mine is expected to produce approximately 290,000 ounces of gold annually through 2015, and mine life lasting through 2026. LaRonde has an estimated
4.7 million ounces of gold in proven and probable reserves, which are among the largest gold reserves for any operating mine in Canada. The LaRonde mine is also believed to be the deepest single-lift mine shaft in the Western Hemisphere. Access to the underground mining operation is through the 2.2-kilometre-deep Penna Shaft.
